One day, the Herodians came to Jesus with a highly charged political question, “Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar?” Their goal was to trap the Savior in a political dilemma, so that they would have grounds to kill him. Jesus famously told his accusers, “Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s.” Jesus answered with great wisdom. But there was also a hidden political message behind his words, and it completely stunned the crowd! Find out why in this short audio lesson!
This is an example of a Roman Denarius, depicting Tiberius Caesar, that the Herodians would have brought to Jesus.
